  • On this day every year Australia celebrates ANZAC Day.  ANZAC Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by
    Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.  ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.  The Australian and New Zealand forces landed on Gallipoli on 25th of April 1915.
  • On this day in 1809.  Australia’s first post office opens in Sydney, Australia.
  • On this day in 1719.  Daniel Defoe’s navel “Robinson Crusoe” is first published.

    I only just read a wonderful article in “Archaeology” about ANZAC Day. What an awful battle – mostly in the tunnels.
