- On this day in 1430. Joan of Arc was captured at Compiegne, northern France and sold to the British.
- On this day in 1701. After being convicted of piracy and of murdering William Moore, Captain William Kidd was hanged in London. William Kidd was born in Scotland in 1654. William Kidd started out as a privateer, hired by European royals to attack foreign ships. When his crew insisted on attacking the Quadegh Merchant, Kidd found himself on the wrong side of the British government. He was hanged in London in 1701, as a warning to other pirates. Legends exist about Captain Kidd and the treasure some believe he buried in the Caribbean, and he remains one of history’s most famous and fascinating pirates.
- On this day in 1934. Notorious US Robbers, Bonnie and Clyde, were ambushed and killed. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow were gunned down with over 100 rounds of ammunition by police in Black Lake, Louisiana.
