- On this day in 1920. Joan of Arc was canonized a Saint. Saint Joan of Arc, The Maid of Orleans was recognised Saint of the Roman Catholic Church. She was excommunicated and burned at the stake by local officials in 1431. Church officials would later nullify her excommunication, declaring her a martyr unjustly executed.
- On this day in 1953. Pierce Brosnan, Irish actor, film producer and environmentalist, celebrates his birthday today.
