  • On this day in 1985.  500 Hippy travellers clash with police on their way to the ancient stone circle of Stonehenge in Wiltshire for and illegal festival, the police set up a roadblock 7 miles from Stonehenge.  The day is known as “The Battle of the Beanfield” and was the first major test of an English Heritage ban on midsummer festivals at Stonehenge.
  • On this day in 1968.  Helen Keller, blind and deaf author and lecturer dies.  Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama on the 27th of June 1880.  She contracted scarlet fever before she was two years old which deprived her senses of sight and hearing.  Helen Keller was the first deaf and blind person to graduate with a college degree, she published 14 books.
  • On this day in 1968.  Simon & Garfunkel’s “Mrs Robinson” hits #1 in the U.S.
