  • On this day in 1934.  Donald Duck makes his debut in the cartoon ‘The Wise Little Hen’.  Donald’s act is to recite the poems Mary Had a Little Lamb and Little Boy Blue, but every time he tries, the mischievous orphans eat his specially made pie, leading Donald to fly into a squawking fit of anger.  This explosive personality became his signature trademark.

 

  • On this day in 1928. Charles Kingsford Smith arrives in Brisbane after completing the flight across the Pacific Ocean.  California to Brisbane.  The flight was in 3 stages, from Oakland, California to Hawaii, then to Suva, Fiji and on to Brisbane, Australia.  His original aircraft, the Southern Cross, is now preserved and displayed in a memorial at the International Terminal at the Brisbane Airport.   Kingsford Smith Drive in Brisbane passes through the suburb of his birth, Hamilton.

 

  • On this day in 1963. Johnny Depp celebrates his birthday today.  Depp starred in Edward Scissorhands, Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland.  Born John Christopher Depp, Jr. in Owensboro, Kentucky.

 

  • On this day in 1961.  Michael J Fox celebrates his birthday today.  Michael is a Canadian American actor, author, producer, activist and voice-over artist.  Fox’s roles have included Marty McFly from the Back to the Future trilogy (1985–1990) and Alex P. Keaton from Family Ties.

    June 9, 1992, Pfc. Michael Thomas Sadlo, USMC, was killed.
