About This Blog

We have started this blog so we can learn more about world events, gossip, history, anything really.  Our goal is to have people comment so we can all learn what your piece of history is.  Please feel free to comment and add your piece of history (something personal or just general history).

We are a family of 5, living on the coast in Queensland Australia.

This blog is in Tribute to Tom Middleton.  Left this world on Monday 22nd of April 2013 at the age to 53.  He would go to work and tell my husband bits of history and trivia and blow my husbands mind the way he could easily remember years and dates.  When we first started this blog my husband was going to ask Tom and rack his talented mind for facts, but 3 weeks later that soon come to an end.

To anybody out there sad, unhappy, depressed, please know that there are always people who care about you.  Please talk to somebody.  No one can help when you are no longer here with us.

As a family, we have decided to make one day a year our “Happy Day”  The idea is to invite everybody we know over.  Those people you never get to catch up with.  Those people you say we should catch up but never find time to do it.  Seeing people at funerals is no fun.  So our first “Happy Day” will be the first weekend in August.

Feel free to email us at pieceofhistory at live.com

We are doing this for education and a bit of fun so if you do find any errors please let us know so that we can change it, thanks.

I absolutely love the idea of your blog because my family are full of information both useful and useless and we are often commented on by friends. Keep up the wonderful work and who knows, one day it may become a really valuable resource. Kind regards. Michele

Hi 09History–thank you for visiting and wanting to follow my little posts–cookiecrumbstoliveby –I like what I’ve found on your blog and think the impetus for starting it is wonderful. I taught high school for 31 years and I appreciate your comments to those who may be sad, depressed…as that is why, when I retired, I wanted to start a blog–I still wanted to reach out to those–like my kids–teenagers and others who often feel alone on their journey in life—happy days there in Queensland all the way from Georgia, USA

    • 09history May 8, 2013 at 8:53 pm #

Thank you Julie so much for your comment, I really appreciate it. If I could help just one person to speak to somebody, and hopefully change their thoughts then it would be a very happy day. Wow 31 years of teaching, thank you! Emma

The people in Darwin are fantastic but I do have to admit that I’m struggling a little bit with the weather being Swedish and all 😉 Glad to hear that you had such a good experience. Think the city will grow on me. And I do love the markets too 🙂

Today, July 2, 2013 is my mother’s birthday. She died this year, and this is the first birthday without her. And though I miss her very much, it is one of the happiest days of my life. Because today, the first Kindle that I bought has arrived. I am overwhelmed with emotion. I’ve loved books all my life. And this is a very big moment for me. If my mother were still alive, she would be 102 years old. I myself am an old man. This is a very happy day for me. Thought I’d share it with you, because you seem to be promoting happiness. I’m all for that.

    • 09history - Emma July 4, 2013 at 11:44 am #

Happy Birthday to your mother and thank you so much for sharing your piece of history! Good luck with your Kindle and hopefully you don’t miss the smell of the books too much!

  24. Chris Eyre July 9, 2013 at 6:06 am #

What a great idea, we all need a happy day!! Great blog and sentiment. My names Chris Eyre, great great grandson of Edward John Eyre and I retraced part of his 1841 expedition across the Nullabor back in 2008. It was the first time I’d been to Australia and I must say beautiful country, great people and great climate!

    Enjoy your weekend in August
    kind regards
    Chris

    • 09history - Emma July 9, 2013 at 11:30 am #

Thank you so much for stopping by Chris! That’s wonderful that you got the opportunity to go across the Nullarbor like your great great grandfather had done 172 years ago! When we did the Nullarbor we had the luxury of our caravan so to imagine what it was like for him in 1841 is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your piece of history, we really do appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment.
