On this day in 1697. Stockholm’s royal castle (dating back to medieval times) is destroyed by fire. In the 18th century, it is replace by the current Royal Palace. It is the official residence of the Swedish Monarch.

On this day in 1928. England lowers the age of women voters from 30 to 21 years of age.
