- On this day in 1800. King George III survives a 2nd assassination attempt. The King was attending a performance at the Drury Lane Theatre in London. The King was in the Royal box, standing as the national anthem was being played. James Hadfield rose and fired his pistol at King George III, missing him by a mere 14 inches. The King ordered the performance to go ahead as planned.
